Skiing in Utah

The Greatest Snow on Earth

Skiing in Utah is the "Greatest Snow on Earth" for Utahns. And we're not just saying it. Ski Magazine says it is. Utah Resorts has taken the first four and six of 10 points in the standings last year's "best snow."

An average of 500 centimeters per year. 42 feet. 14 Yards. That's how much snow falls in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah in an average year during the months of skiing in early November to May.

But whatCause fantastic ski and snowboard conditions to exist? It 's the simple happiness of being where he is. The result of a geographical rarity. Utah is at the foot of the western border of the Rocky Mountains, but east of the great desert of Nevada. In fact, just west of Salt Lake where he began the practice of the desert city.

This place, in the pleasure of skiing powder soft. Most winter storms in northern Utah Pacific. When shemove through the Sierra Nevada and Cascades, lose much of this moisture. Because these storms the high mountains of Utah, more moisture is pressed out. In the cold, relatively dry, the snow is floating on the floor like fluffy down or "powder".

When dust accumulates enough of this powder, the overall effect is a skier down a sensation of floating up the hill. And skiing in Utah will the dust. The wild card in all, this is the Great Salt Lake. Just west of SaltLake City, you can run a multiplier effect on the amount of snow on the Wasatch front and beyond. Passing storms suck and feed on the lake is the humidity. These often "lake effect" multiplies the spectacular amount of snow, often encounters the Wasatch dumped 2-3 feet at a time.

Getting there

Believe it or not, half the people in the U.S. within a 2 ½ hour flight from Salt Lake International Airport. And when the flight lands, you have less than an hour fromClass 11 ski areas in the world. At best, less than 4 hours of skiing in Utah.
