The Trinity Trails system in Fort Worth is similar to a subway map: you can see how each paved trail system snakes through the city. It's an enormously fun activity to walk somewhere far off in the city, rather than drive. Simply put, Fort Worth was made for walking (or bicycling and rollerblading).
Fort Worth is also known for its large-scale parks. Trinity Park is a relaxing place to stop if you happen to be hiking the trail system. Other parks include Gateway Park, Rockwood Park, and Marion Sansom Park at the base of Lake Worth. Dallas also has plenty of full-featured parks, including the Dallas Arboretum, Rochester Park, Boulder Park, Fair Park, Old City Park, and the Dallas Zoo - not technically a park, but with plenty of space for walking.

Take the whole family to Burger's Lake in Fort Worth. The refreshing swimming mecca sits on one acre of land, and is open to the public from Memorial Day to Labor Day each year. Fun activities incorporate diving boards, slides, areas made for jumping off, sand, and even a trapeze. The lake is surrounded by thirty acres of recreational fun, and also offers charcoal grills and a snack bar if you don't feel like cooking. Spend the day with your family and friends for some cool outdoor fun.
If going to the lake and cooling off in the middle of natural surroundings doesn't sound like fun to you, perhaps a water park does. There are various ones to choose from in the area, from the famous Hurricane Harbor and Great Wolf Lodge to the more mild but still fun Bedford Splash, which is built with younger children in mind.
Outdoor Concerts
During the summer and fall seasons, starting in May and going through October, the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex is rocking with a wide range of cool outdoor concerts. From May 1 to July 31, you can take in "Cool Thursdays" at the Dallas Arboretum. Weekly performances begin at 7:30 p.m., but gates open at 6:00 p.m. Picnics and coolers are encouraged, so bring the whole family or a group of friends and get ready for a host of great musical performances in a lovely garden setting. The Arboretum also features a Fall Concert Series that runs from September 18 to October 31.
